The renal hemodynamic effects of SGLT2 inhibition are more and more understood specifically by reducing proximal tubular sodium reabsorption, thereby increasing distal sodium delivery to the macula densa, causing tubuloglomerular feedback, afferent vasoconstriction and decreased hyperfiltration. This short 3.5-min video summarizes very well the mechanisms by which SGLT2 inhibitors could provide renal protection.
